Exhausted

"Unforgettably terrifying! It's the one nobody told you about. The one you missed. The one you may never get to see. Yes, even in this age of Netflix Instant Watch and streaming everything, there are films that lurk in the shadows… It has a visual rigor, a representational courage and a discomforting amorality that are rare even in these nihilistic times."
- Brandon Harris, CINEMA ECHO CHAMBER

"Michael Haneke meets THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT in Kim Gok's EXHAUSTED, a vicious kick in the pants to everyone in the audience... Increasingly deranged!"
- Brian Hu, ASIA PACIFIC ARTS

WATCH THE TRAILER:
youtube.com/watch?v=0LOQul3EypU

Hailed as "gutter cinema" at Rotterdam and Pusan, South Korean filmmaker Kim Gok's EXHAUSTED is an uncompromising, shocking, bleakly funny portrayal of the marginalized lives of a pimp and his mute wife (exploited by him as a prostitute), who stay together in an almost post-apocalyptic, post-industrial landscape on the muddy coast. Pile drivers and huge factory pipes destroy the earth, and people destroy themselves...

Desperately inarticulate characters roam these ruins of modernity like a perverse remake of Antonioni's RED DESERT, shot on grungy Super-8 and developed in the director's bathtub. The unnamed couple consumes cheap food, watches TV and nasty porno, receives customers, and combats one another with psychological power games. Despite her emotional numbness, the wife tries to escape. After she befriends another woman yet returns home anyway, the film plunges toward a wicked finale that is not for the squeamish.

128 minutes. In Korean with English subtitles. Presented in HD. Unrated.

(February 2012) VARIETY says reRun "raises bar for indies" and is "among the only theaters in the U.S. that provides newfound theatrical and ancillary opportunities to films without a [distributor]."

reRun is reBar's independent cinema, located just down the hall from the restaurant. Featuring 48 reclaimed car seats, full bar, gourmet snack counter, and a 12-foot screen, reRun offers just the kind of intimate art-house theater experience you'd expect from the creators of the funky gastropub reBar.

reRun provides a large theater AV experience.
